Teaching & Learning Research
The data used to power COMPASS Reports is drawn from a variety of sources around UCI, including data managed by the Office of Institutional Research, Enrollment Management, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Teaching & Learning.
The COMPASS data set is available for teaching & learning research purposes in two ways:
- For teaching & learning research not intended for publication: reports in Cognos available to both instructors and academic administrators
- For research intended for publication: direct data access is available via COMPASS data scientists

First year outcomes
|Center for Assessment & Applied Research||Undergraduate student success, including retention in major, performance in key gateway courses, graduation rates and equity issues.
Survey research, including student perceptions of campus climate, areas of academic difficulty or success and reasons for selecting/changing majors.
Evaluating the efficacy and impact of student success programs using metrics like grades, student satisfaction, retention and other outcomes.
|Division of Teaching Excellence & Innovation||Partner with campus researchers to collect and disseminate data on evidence-based practices that the campus community can use to improve student success.
Evaluate the impact of programs and campus learning environments on both students and instructors, utilizing assessment data to further improve teaching and learning on campus.
Improve STEM teaching and learning.
Evaluate student equity using computational statistics to promote institutional change.
